DUT-QUT International School of Engineering (DQSE), jointly established by Dalian University of Technology (DUT) and Queensland University of Technology (QUT), welcomed its inaugural cohort at an opening ceremony on 18th October at DUT Panjin Campus.

The event was attended by Liu Wei,Vice President of DUT; Zhan Jingjing, Associate Vice President of DUT and Dean of DQSE ; Gu Yuantong, Dean of Faculty of Engineering at QUT and Australian Dean of DQSE; faculty, students and parents.

Addressing the first cohort, Liu called the school’s establishment an important step in DUT’s efforts to expand high-level international education and a joint effort by the two universities to explore new models of engineering talent training. He encouraged students to focus on hands-on problem-solving, engage critically with AI, cross disciplinary boundaries and build cross-cultural communication skills.

Zhan said the school aims to combine DUT’s strengths in engineering with QUT’s practice-oriented, industry-focused approach. Gu said QUT would bring its expertise in engineering education and industry engagement to give students an international learning experience.

The ceremony also included English-language speeches by student representatives, a flash-mob performance and a cheerleading routine. New students also passed through a symbolic “Gate of University.”

The arrival of the inaugural cohort marks the school’s move into the talent-training phase. The school is based at DUT Panjin Campus.
